The Chasm, Update

Got some basic work done on the encounter placard, The Chasm. Had to stop and cast a lot of Rock faces from some Scenic Woodlands moulds, but progress!

In the bottom picture is one side of the Chasm showing where the "entry" way is. Just visible is an opening that at times, cover removed, will be a Cave or Temple doorway, or with a Rock plug I will have for it , it will not be there!

30 Troglodytes, The Start

Cleaned of flash, bases sanded smoother ready for priming:

2 placards of arms, 3 arms provided for each figure to allow some variability, one long stick with doubled tape to hold the torso's upright for priming. And were off and painting!

Encounter Board changed

Looking at the Arid board I did, I was less and less satisfied with the result and added some more "rock" to the scatter:

Much more satisfied with this look, the small dark stone scatter gives the board a bit more visual "depth" I think. So now to spot a bit of dead grass and perhaps a bone or two.

Pulp Figures Progress Update

So ground away at basing and touch up on more figures......

Bases decorated and trouble makers are confined to their holding cell! A snap on lid covers the lot of them to allow for stacking. Discovered 1$ tubs as shown, added magnetic stock to the bottoms and can hold 30 figures on 20mm x 20mm stands easily. Bottom measurement of the tub in not quite 5", but suspect that one inch washer bases could be off set, hex pattern style, to hold 25 figs, have not tried that yet, but Skrapwelder had voiced an interest in the tubs capacity.

Hmmm OMG! All my current Pulp Adventure figures are Finished!!!!!!

The Chasm

Choked out on painting for a bit so time for Terrain Adventure:

12x12 inch floor tile is the base, 3 inch thick styrafoam, former packing material, forms the walls of the chasm so far. Figure is for scale. Hot glued and dabs of white glue secure the foam to the tile. When its dry, time will be right to start shaping and applying resin cast rock section, though I will keep the sides very steep, or it wouldnot be much of a "chasam" heh. Could paing the bottom area with perspective that it goes deeper, but am thinking that the bottom would serve as a deep gully for desert wadi encounters... options..

Heres the upper rough in of the Cliff walls with an approach cut out on the left, the one on the right is just barely visible.  Figuring on a suspended rope bridge with planking...  Out of smooth Kel Seal still.. may use up the textured that I have though for this as its more of a desert / arid setting, or even mountainous..  Hmm... Place some jungle plants, on bases here and there and its location would obviously be in the jungle..!

Different shot of the Chasm from higher up to show some more detail. The gap is definetly wide enough that it cannot be leaped by a mere mortal, so its good enough. Also, the actual "distance" across could be double or triple for the purpose of shooting arcross it by stating the gap is "representational"

Time to back to the Paint table.

Painting WIPs

Busy Painting till late last night resulted in getting man figures near completion or well under way:

Oriental pirates and gang figures need basing and a bit of tiny detai touch up. Fill in for the San Francisco Barbary times Tong gangs, south sea pirates and a host of other duties. Left weapons out of the hands of some of the figures for martial arts fighters, rather than Everyone having a weapon. Also good for stand in civilians, though I may seek out and get a few more generic oriental civilians for pulp adventurers to interact with and not need to kill them all :)
These fellows are slightly modified by the simple approach of removing most of their firearms, again to generate people who are unarmed, well, then again those long coats could conceal a wide assortment of fireamrs. Skin tones and base coatings applied, Washes and Dry brushing to go, as well as bases. Hapless civilians, detectives or all around no good-nics abound.

Next, nearing completion are a gang of thugs. Bit more detailing to reach readiness. Bases to color and detail, should be done with them today as well. With their promiscuously firing weapons they will possibly terrorize the unready.

Cthulu Fix

Next problem for a wonderful Apocalypse figure was that this large beastie has great tentacles that he waves in the air, unfortunately, they went up and over his head....Not very Threatening to be sure.

Tried putting it in Hot water for about half an hour, then gently bending the Tentacles outward, wedging objects between the Tentacle and body and leaving it over night to cool and hopefully re harden in a new position. Worked like a charm, for 1 day, oops, day 2 they were nearly straight up, day 3 they were curving ever so slightly back in.... bugger....

Plan B, have to have one you know, was Into the freezer for an hour, remove and pop him off his base and work the base of the tentacles lose from the body, they had been some sort of hot glued on.
4 Clay props on the corners, large dollops of glue gel on the base of each Tentacle cluster, and leave over night to its current new look which I am liking much more!

Note, the best way to shape the figure is with a Hair dryer on high for about 45 seconds, then move the tentacles to the position and then move figure to under running cold water. Stays in place.
